Slowly but surely.
Robin, I think I'm going to steal your blog name because yesterday, I was the turtle. There were five of us who met at Lakeshore Park for our Thursday "run." It was a beautiful breezy afternoon as Micha, Debra, Suzanne, Debbie and I headed toward the five-mile destination. That was the last I saw of them until I was in my car headed out to clock how far I had walked. Nope didn't make five miles, only 3½ in one hour, but I did do some running with very little hip pain. So, even though I didn't go the five miles, I still feel like I crossed a big hurtle! (In more ways that one!) I also learned that I have a long way to go and there will be no more goofing off. As Mark said, "It's time to get serious!" Yesterday was my "wakeup" call (but not before trying to justify it by thinking "I was the oldest and fattest one out there so, of course I was going to be slower. LOL) Then it hit me, "You big dummy, age and weight has nothing to do with it. . .you have to get up off your fat ass and work for this achievement!!!" I will be purchasing an Ironman watch this weekend. Or, is there some gizzmo that will do intervals and tell me how far I have walked? I guess I could just do like I did yesterday and clock the distance after I walk it. Anyway, I can see now that my evenings will be spent at Lakeshore Park building my distance, endurance and speed. My goal is to finish the Chicago Marathon before it's officially closed. I don't think that's an unreasonable goal. Or is that just my wishful thinking coming into play? Well, a girl has to have a dream . . . Thank you ladies . . . if not for you, I would still be trudging along thinking I was progressing as I should. Now I know better and I know what has to be done. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Micah, I agree that this should become a weekly event for us and hopefully we will continue to inspire others to join us.
See you guys for the 7 miles tomorrow. Blog on Marthoners!!!

Sheila,
It was nice to meet you and get a chance to talk with you for a while. This should definitely be a weekly goal and event if we can make it one.
One thing I learned through the military is that you do not have to run fast just all day. We know our pace and limitations. Listen to your body and you will do fine. Watch out for the negativity though (that always gets me, I am the worlds worst at being negative to myself while running).
I look forward to seeing you Saturday!

As far as the watch or other gadgets, you can get watches with heart rate monitors, GPS, and just about anything else you want. I've been told (too poor to get one) that the heart rate monitors are really good. You can maximize your workouts if you workout in your target heart rate. If you go over, you're not really doing any good. Also, the GPS devices are good for logging routes. You can then hook them up to your computer and load them to a website to track you routes and find out your distance. Anyway, just a couple of suggestions. Keep up the good work and know that I'm proud of you.

Hey Sheila:
It was great to see you out there. I've been working up to that interval running for a couple of months. Each trip out seems to build up a little more strength and stamina.
See ya tomorrow at 8 at Lakeshore!!

What day and what time do y'all meet at Lakeshore Park? I will try to get there if the time is right. That is my goal, too,Sheila... finish the marathon before they take those barriers down. I don't want to get lost like the lady did last year. I would FREAK OUT!

You are doing great!... Don't think you can reverse everything we have done to ourselves in 13 weeks.

Sheila, I saw you had stopped on the 7 mile trek and were talking to Robin. Looked like you may have had a knee problem. Are you okay?
